Nylon and polyester are the two most popular synthetic carpets and, while they both have plenty of advantages, the choice will come down to both your needs and budget.

Synthetic carpet flooring comprises about 97% of all broadlooms. Many consider them the more practical choice, especially since they're more resistant to stains and economical.

When you have a nylon carpet, you can rest easy knowing that it's tough enough to stand up to kids, pets, and the heaviest foot traffic. It's also quite economical and, depending upon style, can be pretty soft. With a good protectant, nylon's stain resistance can be excellent.

Nylon is known for superior resiliency, the ability to bounce back into shape after compression, such as from walking on it, vacuuming, or placing furniture over it. This carpet flooring is also easy to care needing only regular vacuuming, spot stain treatment, and a steam cleaning every 12 to 18 months, the latter also helping to maintain resiliency.

Polyester is soft and more inexpensive than wool or nylon, but perhaps the most significant advantage is inherently stain resistant. Polyester is hydrophobic, meaning that it won't absorb spills. However, all carpets have some protectant; polyester is significantly enhanced when its non-absorbency is combined with a stain guard.

Modern technological innovations have improved polyester’s performance abilities, decreasing the possibility of crushing or matting and increasing the rug’s resiliency. It’s still best, however, for rooms with moderately heavy foot traffic.
